Purpose

Explain the difference between Renewal and Add New on a customer file, and what to do when the product you want is not listed.

Overview

Renewal and Add New do different jobs. Renewal carries the policy on screen into a new term. Add New starts a fresh quote for a different policy against the same customer.

Add New opens a Request Details form that unlocks one field at a time. Each answer decides what the next field offers, which is why the lower fields look greyed out until the ones above them are filled in.

Expected Behaviour

  • Renewal is one of the actions down the right hand side of the customer file, alongside Documents, Underwriting, Change, Cancel, Reinstate and Claim. It acts on the policy currently shown in the panel.
  • An action that does not apply to the policy on screen is greyed out.
  • Add New sits at the top right of the policy panel, beside the Term selector. It opens Request Details.
  • On Request Details only Effective Date and Description start out available. The rest unlock in order as the ones above them are completed.
  • Effective Date unlocks Broker. Broker unlocks Broker Contact Name and Province. Line of Business follows, then Product and Billing Type.
  • Line of Business offers Personal and Commercial.
  • Choosing Commercial adds a Product Category field. It is optional and offers Property, Liability and Auto.
  • Product lists only the products in the chosen category. Left blank, Product Category does not filter anything and every product is listed.

Steps

To renew an existing policy

  1. Open the customer file and select the policy and term in the panel on the right.
  2. Select Renewal from the actions on the right hand side.
  3. Set the new term and work through the quote as usual.

To add a new policy

  1. Open the customer file and select Add New at the top right of the policy panel.
  2. Set the Effective Date.
  3. Find the broker by code or office, then complete Broker Contact Name and Province.
  4. Choose the Line of Business.
  5. For Commercial, either set Product Category to narrow the list or leave it blank to see every product.
  6. Choose the Product and the Billing Type, add a description if one is needed, then select Continue.

Notes and Edge Cases

  • Where no products are listed, check Product Category first. A liability product is not shown while the category is set to Property, and the other way round.
  • Clearing Product Category returns the full list, so it is the quickest way to see everything available.
  • Product Category appears only for Commercial. It is not offered on a Personal line of business.
  • Broker Contact Name is required. Where the contact is not in the list, Add Broker Contact sits beside the field.
