Purpose

Explain why Remove Risk Group is not offered on the first risk group of a policy, and how to remove it when it is no longer needed.

Overview

The first risk group on a policy is its primary risk group. A policy has to keep one primary risk group at all times, so the primary cannot be removed while it holds that designation. Remove Risk Group is not offered against it.

The designation is moved rather than cleared. Setting another risk group as the primary releases the original, and Remove Risk Group then appears against it.

Risk groups are added, removed and reordered on a change request or on a version that is still in progress. Some products label a risk group differently, for example as a unit or a location, but the behaviour described here is the same.

Expected Behaviour

  • The primary risk group sits first in the left hand menu and in the step sequence across the top of the page.
  • Remove Risk Group is offered against every risk group except the primary one.
  • Each risk group carries a Primary Risk Group question, answered Yes or No, on its Eligibility step.
  • Setting Primary Risk Group to Yes on another risk group moves the designation to it. The original is set to No automatically and does not have to be changed by hand.
  • The newly designated risk group moves to first position in the left hand menu and in the step sequence.
  • Remove Risk Group then appears against the original risk group.
  • Removing a risk group raises a confirmation naming the group, for example Are you sure you want to remove Contractor's Package Risk Group, with Cancel and Confirm.
  • Once removal is confirmed, the risk group's details are greyed out and its menu entry changes to Revert, followed by the risk group name. The removal can be undone from there until the change is submitted.

Steps

  1. Open the change request, or the version in progress, that carries the risk groups.
  2. In the left hand menu, open the risk group that is to become the primary one and select Primary.
  3. On the Eligibility step, set Primary Risk Group to Yes.
  4. Check that the risk group has moved to first position and that the original now shows Primary Risk Group as No.
  5. In the left hand menu, open the original risk group and select Remove Risk Group.
  6. Read the confirmation, which names the risk group being removed, and select Confirm.
  7. Continue through the change request and check the result before submitting.

Notes and Edge Cases

  • Only one risk group can be the primary one at any time. The designation is transferred, never left empty.
  • Removing a risk group re-runs eligibility and rating for the change request. The remaining risks can produce a different outcome, so check the result before carrying on.
  • A removal that has been confirmed but not yet submitted can be undone from Revert against the same risk group.
  • Where the risk group to be removed is the only one on the policy, it cannot be removed. A policy keeps at least one risk group.
