Purpose
To explain what the Shift4 payment integration provides, how card and bank account payments are processed within the Modular Solutions platform, and what it means for the teams who collect premiums.
Overview
The Shift4 integration, using the legacy Bambora gateway, enables Modular Solutions clients to accept credit card and bank account (EFT/PAD) payments directly within the platform.
Sensitive card information is not stored in Modular. Instead, secure payment profiles are used so clients can save payment methods and process future payments safely and efficiently. This supports a more secure payment experience while keeping payment activity embedded in the insurance workflow.
What the Integration Delivers
- Embedded payment collection within the platform, integrated with billing workflows
- Real-time credit card payments, pre-authorisation, captures, voids and refunds
- Batch-based bank account (EFT/PAD) payments
- Secure saved payment methods
- Transaction tracking, payment history, and status visibility
How It Works
| Payment type | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Credit card payments | Credit card payments are processed in real time. Supported card actions include immediate charges, pre-authorisations, capture of held funds, voids, and refunds. When a payment is submitted, Modular receives an immediate approval or decline response. This helps teams confirm whether payment was successful at the point of quote conversion, policy activation, instalment collection, or refund processing. |
| 2. Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) | Bank account payments are processed differently from cards. EFT transactions are grouped into secure batch submissions and processed after submission rather than instantly. Modular then updates payment records when final status information becomes available. This gives teams visibility into outcomes such as successful settlement, insufficient funds, invalid account details, and other failed bank transactions. |
Business Impact
| Benefit | What it means |
|---|---|
| Stronger security posture for sensitive payment data | Card details are held in secure payment profiles rather than stored in Modular. |
| Reduced payment friction and more choice for clients | Both card and bank account payment methods are supported in the same workflow. |
| Faster, simpler payment collection inside the platform | Premiums are collected without leaving the insurance workflow. |
| Support for recurring and follow-up billing | Saved payment methods allow future payments to be processed safely. |
| Better operational visibility | Transaction tracking, payment history, and status are visible to the team. |
| Reduced manual work | Payment collection is integrated with billing workflows rather than handled separately. |
In Summary
Clients get a secure, embedded way to collect premiums, support both cards and EFT, reduce manual payment handling, and improve the customer payment experience inside Modular.
