Purpose
To ensure manual referrals behave consistently and predictably throughout the policy lifecycle, aligning them with system-generated referral conditions and eliminating issues caused by legacy handling.
Overview
Manual referrals have been updated to use the same underlying process as system-generated referral conditions. Previously, manual referrals were stored and handled differently, which could lead to inconsistent behavior—such as referrals reappearing unexpectedly or not clearing as expected during quote progression.
With this update, manual referrals are now treated as standard referral conditions. This brings consistent behavior across quoting, referral acceptance, amendments, and subsequent transactions.
Expected Behavior
Users can now expect the following:
-
Manual referrals behave the same way as system-generated referrals.
-
Accepting referrals applies uniformly, regardless of whether the referral was added manually or automatically.
-
Manual referrals are transaction-based:
-
They apply only to the transaction in which they are added.
-
They automatically drop off on subsequent transactions (for example, after re-quoting or amending).
-
-
Referral status updates correctly as the quote or policy moves through its lifecycle, reducing the risk of unexpected referral blocks.
Example:
-
If a manual referral is added during a quote and then accepted, it will not persist into a future amendment unless the conditions that trigger it still apply
Steps (How to Confirm the Behavior)
-
Create or open a quote that requires a manual referral.
-
Add the manual referral and proceed through the referral acceptance flow.
-
Advance, amend, or re-quote the policy.
-
Confirm that:
-
The manual referral does not persist into the new transaction unless re-triggered.
-
Referral acceptance behaves consistently with other referral conditions.
-
Notes / Edge Cases
-
Manual referrals are no longer a special or separate type of referral.
-
Any changes that introduce new referral conditions (manual or system-generated) will require referrals to be accepted again.
-
This change removes the legacy implementation that previously caused inconsistent or unexpected referral behavior.
-
No configuration changes are required for existing users.
Customer Communication Notes
This change improves reliability and predictability when working with referrals. No action is required from brokers or underwriters to benefit from this update—manual referrals will now behave consistently as part of the standard referral process.
